Our co-conspirator James Duke put together this video for Cough Cool’s “Plastic Jewelry”,

You can download the comp here.
Cough Cool also has a truly wonderful new LP out on Bathetic Records.
“My friend’s grandfather used to say the problem with schools is that they teach kids to think, rather than ever doing anything. And my old social studies teacher used to say that the problem with science is that it is already too far gone in its own opinion. Under the pressures of thought and conception and unabashedly influenced by society and the world, Talk Midway has introduced the aspect of ‘reflection’ onto Already Dead Tapes and Records, while still leaving the ‘as is’ as ‘as is.’
Patrick Nylen, (the sole musician in Talk Midway,) is New York based and proclaims himself to “reflect diy values.” A very meditative mix and experimental noise, each album demonstrates the craft of ambient sounds layered over tracks of samplings from societal influences, global events – and personal dealings with it all. Subtly manipulative digital and analog whirs, with a few traditional instruments recorded on a couple of tracks. Like I said, he is not so much as making a suggestive statement as he is simply tapping into the unpronounced illusions and effects the world is having on us. They are songs of reflection rather than opinion, which is something many artists struggle with when expressing feelings.
A great album that we hope you’ll enjoy as this year comes to an end – we definitely look forward to see what will come next for Patrick Nylen and Talk Midway.”

“The Boston based band, The Blue Dress is definitely one that understands working instruments together. The Blue Dress has the sound of experienced members, who have finally found a niche for where they belong as a band, and seeing the importance of every sound and every contribution. A great list of songs for the fall season entering winter, with poetic lyrics and steady guitar rhythms blended beautifully over accompanying instruments. The sound of The Blue Dress is definitely an expressive one that Already Dead Tapes and Records is happy to release at such a perfect season. Hope you enjoy.”

“Equal parts Scott Walker and eerie, melting lounge music, Moscow’s Nicholay Syrov (The Cats Orchestra) is definitely traversing an unusual path in the ever-expanding DIY tape scene. Or maybe it’s just part of this whole ‘New Weird Russia’ thing I keep hearing about. Either way, the slight skewing of instrumentation and recognizable musical elements gives pretty much all of Coffee Killer (out now on Already Dead Tapes) a drunken, zombie-music vibe. The original seed of a song seems to be present, albeit coated in peeling flesh and a rotting odor. To quote the label, you probably won’t come across something quite like this anytime soon.”
We’re extremely excited to add Italy’s Panda Kid to our roster and even more excited about how good ‘Scary Monster Juice’ is.
“Brewster’s rising psych pop strummers, The Blue Dress, who we first wrote about back in July, are hard at work readying the tracks that will be featured on an upcoming cassette release to be issued on Chicago’s Already Dead Tapes at the end of October. Not to worry, you won’t have to recover your old boombox from the attic, unless you want to, in which case have at it. Where was I? Oh yes, the cassette will also come with a download code. This morning, drummer Tim Sylvia sent over a re-recorded demo of Deth Ray or what he’s dubbing a rough mix. The song originally appeared on the bands Demo EP as My Deth Ray which you can grab at The Blue Dress Bandcamp page. This new re-recorded version of Deth Ray stopped us dead in our tracks. Strings and horns have been added to the track but the band manages to retain the austere charm of the original.

Dan over at Ongakubaka had some nice things to say about AD009 ‘The Return Of Lasso’:
“Incredibly refreshing lofi country music out of Kalamazoo, MI. Layers of reverb and haunting vocals give this a psychedelic vibe that seems pretty hard to come across within such a streamlined genre.”

“Ha, this is perfect. Howling guitars, summertime vocals, lo-fi confused drums and beautiful climactic synth unite under this caressing forgiving sky and make you send unfettered smiles to people around. And not because it’s hilarious – it’s not! – but because it’s life-asserting, yeah. Music like this proclaims that everything is possible simply because one’s always gets what he really wants like a stalker near the golden sphere. Music like this proclaims that one more attempt is always worth trying. Music like this - proclaims.
Music like this tells you, See you tomorrow.

“If your ideal summer soundtrack is more “Basinski” than “beach-ready”, then you will feel right at home within the mysterious darkness of William Bower’s brand new tape release Soundtracks #2. On his latest album, Bowers incorporates lurching tape loops and elements of musique concrete to knit a claustrophobic sweater of noise and atmosphere. What makes Soundtracks stand out from most other drone tapes, however, is the sheer beauty and visceral emotion of every movement. Bowers communicates powerfully through these recordings and it is truly in your best interest to listen immediately to this totally killer tape.”
